"The setting is exquisite," says the realtor, adding that all the glass "blurs the divide" between interior and forest. "It's private, and it's sunny, and it's just spectacular."

"The house is pretty much in its original condition," says McFarland, explaining that the owners are children of the home's second owners, who are putting it on sale for the first time in more than a half-century. Noting that even the kitchen appliances are original, he added, "It could be lived in currently as is, or could be updated to 2017."

"It would be an absolute shame for anyone to do anything else with it," he says solemnly. "I think it's got tremendous architectural significance. It's like a piece of art."

"He saw what houses should be, and their relationship to the land, and how people should live in them," Berkeley architect Wanda Liebermann told the Point Reyes Light newspaper upon her father's passing in 2015. "His physical creations started reflecting the density of his thinking, so it was hard to start distinguishing between the space and the objects."

This particular house even appears to have transformational powers, McFarland says, remarking about a recent visit during the rain: "I always think of a rainy day as a gloomy experience, and it was the opposite!"

McFarland, whose own home in Mill Valley as "Eichlerish," pointed out that 861 Lovell is as historic as any he has ever listed, with the possible exception of a Sausalito summer house circa 1900 he once sold.

The realtor added that he is not alone in this assessment, noting, "There's a lot of buzz about it. It may sell quickly."
