This is the Berkeley tour's 43rd year, and although there are some steep inclines, Bruce said, "We plan these tours to be walkable…[and] parking is always a challenge. We always have so many people on the tour!"
On Saturday May 12, eight house doors will open at Sea Ranch. "For people who are looking for an architect, a builder, it's a really good resource," says Linda Bradbrook, co-chair for several years of the Sea Ranch Soroptimist Architectural Tour and Wine Tasting. Of the eight sites on the May 12 tour, she adds, "For many of the houses, the architect is going to be there."
For the Sea Ranch Soroptimist Architectural Tour and Wine Tasting's 34th year, Bradbrook said the $60-$70 tickets (online only for card payment) for the tour will not only feature a wine and food tasting event afterward at the Gualala Art Center, but also a rare look at the Mendocino County portion of the region.
"It's been a few years since we've had homes there," she explained of the three houses on Fish Rock Road north of Gualala, including a 1974 Ralph Matheson design. Bradford said the annual event used to be called a 'home tour,' but in choosing the houses, "Home refers to décor, architectural refers to architecture—so we try to emphasize the architecture."
The finale for May's month of home tours will take place Saturday May 19 in San Rafael: Marin Eichler Home Tour 2018. And, of course, it will be all Eichlers! For tickets, click here. For the latest developments on the Marin tour, look for next week's 'Fridays on the Homefront' tour preview.
