"It is very difficult to improve on the original [Eichler] design, so focus on updating materials, appliances, and finishes in keeping with modern architecture," they wrote. "Eichler homes also have unique issues associated with a remodel, so work with people that are familiar with these homes."
"Eichlers are unique; they have a lot of unique qualities to them," Key chimed in, adding that contractors inexperienced with them frequently underestimate the costs involved in a remodel.
"There's a huge amount of work that goes into a project," says Key, who said he chose his two homes on the tour specifically "to let people get a good idea of what's involved in the projects and how I can help them."
