Double "A" atrium front wall -- Glass choice / alternatives / creative ideas.

I am in the process of planning to replace the front atrium wall in my double "A" Eichler (Lucas Valley) as the posts are rotting out.
One of the original glass panes is cracked and apparently matching glass no longer exists, so all the panes need to be replaced. I've gotten a quote for new satin tempered glass, it is quite expensive and I'm wondering what other options might be out there.
A couple of things come to mind:
-- I've seen frosted acrylic that looks similar and is far less expensive. Any experience with this, pros / cons? I get that it's not a 50 year product like glass.
-- Float glass (untempered) with frosted / satin safety film. We've applied that to some of our interior windows and it looks great but I don't know if you can even buy custom float glass these days.
-- I feel like I've seen laser cut metal or other 'screen' style substitutes for glass, I think with frosted material behind for privacy, but am having trouble finding pictures. If anyone's done something like this would love to learn more about it.
