I would like to replace the front entry door. Do I need to remove the glass on top and side to do a pre-hung? Any and all suggestions welcome.
Thank You.
It'd probably be easier for you to remove your door, and take it to a lumber company that sells doors and does 'door matching'. They will trim a new door to match the exact dimensions of your old door - including mortising for hinges and cutout for the doorknob/hardware. You should then be able to rehang the new door with minimal shimming of the hinges.
Thanx sounds like a great idea. Do you know of any good door places on the peninsula?
It'd be a good idea to put an email address in your profile or in your postings. We're not supposed to make contractor/supplier recommendations in the Maintenance Hotline. I'm sure if you post your email, people will send you recommendations (including me). You could also 'search' on other topics and you'll likely find mention of local lumber companies that do door matching.
Hi--please let me know if you have suggestions for entry door replacement contractors in the SF Bay area--area code 650 or 408.
Thanks.
