Has any one ever replaced their floor outlet in the living room by the fireplace.

Two reasons why I want to:

The outlet is original and seems very rusty due to the fact that it is so close to the outside concrete.

I have a gas fireplace with it's electrical cord coming out from the fireplace to be plugged into the floor outlet. A bad design.

Are you asking about replacing the?

1. Faceplate
or
2. Receptacle
or
3. Box

1 and 2 are very easy/straightforward. Just like any other outlet in the house.

For 3, the box is set in the concrete so it'd be some work to dig it out (and of course you'd want to be careful with your slab).

When we had our floors replaced, I simply replaced the receptacle and faceplate. While the floor was out I cleaned up the existing box. If you've got rust you could use some WD-40 to try to clean it up.

Good luck.

It sounds like you need an outlet on the wall near the fireplace. You could possibly extend your present electrical to this location the next time you have that wall open. I'm sure you would love to abandon the floor outlet.
