Garage Door Lock

We just purchased an Eichler, and we have the garage doors that slide open. The garage door has a lock on it, but the previous did not have a key for it and always left it unlocked.

Is anyone familiar with these kind of locks, and where I can get a replacement lock? Saw nothing at Lowe's or Home Depot that looked remotely similar.

I am not sure if locks on the sliding garage doors were installed by Eichler or if the original owners fitted them. When we moved in only one of our sliders was fitted with a lock, the other had a hook and eye to secure it.

The lock that is on our slider was easy to remove and disassemble and the local locksmith was able to get a replacement cylinder for the type of key we wanted and to key it to match. The end result is that we have one key that works all the doors in the house.

Hello,

I found that style lock at a locksmith shop on El Camino in Redwood City. I believe it was Crane Locksmith. I'd check with a locksmith.

You could forget the lock and install an automatic opener. You can get security and convenience. If you are not parking in the garage, a keyed lock is kind of a waste anyway.
