Our $1300.00 PGE bill has me wondering if anyone out there has solar powered radiant heat in their Eichler? If so, please share any info you may have.
Thanks.

I have seen two such systems, years ago. They both had approx 3,000 gallon reservoirs, displacing one car in the garage. Neither system worked well in the winter...since using the system mostly at night, would loose heat faster than their solar panels could gain it. Winter days are short and cold. One customer had his storage tank filled with anti-freeze. I wonder what that cost him.

#1 put on a sweater
#2 replace the old evil boiler
#3 have the utility co come out and check the flow.
think you might have a giant leak. Besides Spock, nobody but a Vulcan likes it hot enough to run up a $1300 bill for one month below the arctic circle. They'll credit you back if you can show a problem fixed in a timely manner. This could be a much more serious problem that you need to address. Good Luck J

Wow! I don't know how large your Eichler is but your bill is about ten times ours (for a small 3/2 Eichler) - and we keep the house a little warmer than average. At this stage it would almost be economical (in addition to all the other benefits) to:

- get a new boiler (that's easy)
- get roof replaced and insulated (not so bad)
- get double-pane windows (more painful and pricey)

You should keep the board posted on how your bill evolves as you move along any upgrades (it'd be interesting to know where the culprit is)!
