Home warranty for an Eichler??

Someone who has an Eichler asked if it was possible to purchase a home warranty. I know some new homes offer this with a purchase. It would seem crazy to me that an insurance company would cover a 50 year old home that constantly has maintenance issues like these Eichlers. Does anyone has any experience with home warranties? Does anyone have one on their Eichler?
Thanks, Lynn

Hello.
I had a home warranty included with the purchase of my Eichler last year. I did call them when we had a plumbing backup and they did send someone out. The problem was that there was actually a break in the drain line and I didn't feel comfortable with their plumbers for such a major repair. Their plumbers also tried to get me to do extra work that, it turns out, was completely unnecessary. I tried to get approval to use my plumber but never got a response. I ended up using plumbers that I was more comfortable with.
I don't think a home warranty would be worth anything on an Eichler unless you only need very basic repairs (snake a drain, etc.).
Otherwise, Eichlers require specific repairs and I believe most Eichler owners would want to do their own research and be choosy about who they let work on their home. My two cents.....

Save your money on the home warranty. We've found that when you call their provider list, it's not necessarily the best or most responsive. Plus there's enough "rules" that sometimes you end up paying the full amount anyways.
