Hoping for some help...

Hi all!
My husband and I bought an Eichler in San Rafael and moved in during the summer. We absolutely LOVE it and especially love that it is almost all original! My problem (other than the fact that we have a pocket gopher digging up our bakcyard) is with our single one piece overhead garage door.

It appears to be out of alignment and rubs against the frame on one side causing it to jerk when it's going up or down. Thinking it had to do with the installation of the automatic opener, we had someone look at it. He (not a garage guy) said that it seemed that the hinges were cracked. Someone else (a garage man) told me that there was no way that it could be fixed and that I needed to replace it with the "roll up" kind like "everyone else". ICK! I cannot find anyone who will come look at it or who even says that they work with the Holmes E902 hardware - there is one company listed on this site who is familiiar with what I need but does not service Marin.

We don't care about the automatic opener - we just really want to be able to use the door! Any information that anyone has regarding where I can get the hardware or even someone that will look at it would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

When people say "It can not be fixed, you need to go with a new one..."
It generally means that they are not only lazy but stupid too.
There is a guy that is recommended in the Marin area on the marinmodern website. You really should only get people who know Eichlers to work on them, if you care about the integrity of the work. You can also try outside of your area. Some contractors will travel for a fee. It might be worth it.
Hope this helps.

IMHO, to maintain the integrity of the design, you need a garage door that is surfaced with the same siding as the rest of the front facade.

Certainly, if your current garage door is itself in reasonable shape, the most cost-effective approach is to replace only the hardware (as you seem to be trying to do). While you could go to a sectional, it would need to be surfaced with matching siding and the figures I've heard run at about $2500 (vs. $600 or less for replacing the hardware only).

So, do continue looking for an installer. Checking the website mentioned by another poster seems a good idea. If you still strike out, let me know and I'll dig out the contact info for the guys I used and see if they are willing to travel (I'm in SJ).
