Light switch & plug covers

We've just painted the walls in our "new" 1956 Eichler in Walnut Creek. I would like to replace all the old light-switch & electrical plug covers. I know it's a small thing, but what are the appropriate covers to use? Enamel? Plastic? Thank you!
