Nutone Food Center

We bought an Eichler with a Nutone Food Center but unfortunately there was not a single attachment. We are re-laminating the kitchen counter tops and wondering if we should reinstall the Food Center.

Does any one use theirs? Is it reliable? What attachments do you use? I have searched Ebay and it seems with patience I could find many of the original pieces.

Should it stay or should it go?

I guess the first question is what shape is the base unit and motor in. Does it run? Are there corrosion holes through the well where the various blender, mixer, etc. attach?

On whether to keep it or not, I'd say it depends on how original you want to keep your Eichler. If you're staying pretty true to original materials/forms (which it sounds, with a laminate counter, you are), I'd definitely keep it if it's in good shape.

Not sure if you can see the motor mount under the counter, but if so, there should be a metal label giving the model number (which you'll want to know before you start buying any attachments). I'm guessing it might be Model 221.

It can take a while to collect attachments on Ebay and prices vary auction to auction. I've been really taken by the Nutone kitchen center ever since I saw my first shortly after I got my Eichler. Unfortunately, my kitchen didn't come with one and there isn't sufficient counter space to install it. I acquired a base unit and attachments through various Ebay auctions with the intent of building a rolling cart unit which would store the attachments underneath. But I might not do it after all as the base unit I bought has corrosion holes in the attachment well and I'm not sure I want to go through the auction thing again.

If you decide to take yours out, give me a call as I might buy the base unit off you. If you decide to keep it, give me a call as I might decide to sell the attachments I have. I also have the manual.

Cheers.
