Our 'test' of radiant heat under carpet

Well, another data point in the perpetual discussion of how bad carpet over radiant heat is: We've had our radiant heat off for the last week due to a busted water pump. We just got back in from xmas travels today and boy is the floor C-O-L-D! -and so is the rest of the house. By logical trickery, I can conlcude that the radiant heat, when operating, was doing just fine from under the plain jane wall-to-wall carpeting that we have, as well as creating a rather luxurious (as proven by its absence) warm carpeted floor.

The good news about the water pump is that maybe the money we saved by having the heat off will pay for the repair ;)
