I'm wondering about stained concrete floors. Are the cracks objectionable? Who does such work?

Stained concrete floors are beautiful. You can do many designs and colors on them which can make them look like artwork. Cracks are very normal and expected since the floor is a large slab and the earth always settles on a foundation. Cracks actually give character to the floors and it will happen so don't sweat it when it does, unless the crack is wide, then you might want to get a geological inspection of your home to ensure the ground below is safe. There are a few good concrete contractors and I would suggest talking to a few and getting a few bids before you make a decision since they all seem to have different ways of preparing the slab and doing the acid etching. Look for one in Marin and one in the East Bay. I can't suggest any due to limitations to this site. Good luck!

Information on concrete floors, pictures, local contractor information, etc are available at http://groups.mac.com/eichlerweb
