Burlingame Eichler with History - Page 2

First time on market—all-original, lifetime residence of Eichler staffer Jonas Harschel

The backyard of the Harschel house is like a page out of a vintage Sunset magazine.

An all-original 1964 Eichler kitchen is not only a rarity today, but a keeper, in our opinion. Views look out towards the Bay and East Bay hills, surrounding you with nature. Adjacent to the kitchen is the dining room, which can also be used as a separate family room.

"My mom and dad tried to stay very much with mid-century furniture, very contemporary. A lot of Eames and Herman Miller furnishings, which I think were originally from the model homes, that maybe my dad bought or was given," says Danielian.

"Matt Kahn, the interior designer for Eichler, was the artist for two paintings [they owned], one over the fireplace, and one on the wall."

The backyard is like a page out of a vintage Sunset magazine, with a large, in-ground swimming pool, a custom pool house, built-in outdoor fireplace, and patios that enjoy panoramas of the Bay.

"My favorite thing about the Mariposa house is the pool, of course. My friends loved the pool," recalls Danielian.

"I think I was the only one of the friends who had a pool. We had many nights sitting out by the fireplace built by my dad. He built the whole backyard himself, adding sunken pool benches and a beautiful koi pond too."

Other unique features, she says, are the pool fountain and saucer planters outside the kitchen. "The three round bowls were from old factories, where people would come and wash their hands [while pressing] foot levers. They're filled with flowers and vegetation now…I hope nobody takes them out."

"It's almost like I want to pay homage to my dad [with the sale of our family home]," adds Danielian. "It's his legacy, kind of the end of an era. He was a special human being, as my mother was; they were together forever, married in 1949."

As a sales manager for Joe Eichler, Harschel sold Eichlers in the San Mateo Highlands, Terra Linda, Castro Valley, the Diamond Heights apartment complex in San Francisco, and of course Burlingame. He also had a reputation as Eichler Homes' ‘troubleshooter' salesman.

The first open house for 8 Mariposa Court is scheduled on two successive Sundays, September 25 and October 2, from 2-4:30pm. Click here for a 3-D floor plan and virtual tour.
