Once Fresno's best-kept secret, visionary Stan Bitters finds newfound popularity with dazzling grand-scale art he calls 'environmental ceramics'

Taking a Bitters Tour

• In Fresno: Duncan Enterprises Company is an amazing sight (5673 East Shields Avenue). First Federal Credit Union (2525 East Shields Avenue) has Bitters ceramic murals and freestanding sculptures both inside and out. The former bank building at Fashion Fair Mall (North First Street at East Santa Ana Avenue) has four walls of ceramic cladding. The College Church of Christ (1284 East Bullard Avenue) has a Bitters crucifixion. The Saroyan Theater at the Fresno Convention Center (730 M Street) has immense modern bronze doors. Nearby, a Bitters installation is on the Sawl Law Group building (2150 Tulare Street).

• In Los Angeles: Promenade West Condominiums (880 West First Street) features a large fountain. Shoreham Towers (8787 Shoreham Drive, West Hollywood) has Bitters' work at the entry. Wells Fargo Bank (11836 San Vicente Boulevard) is one of Bitters' favorite installations, for the exterior and lobby.

• In Palm Springs: The Ace Hotel has Bitters fireplace installations (701 E. Palm Canyon Drive).

• In San Francisco: You can find Bitters' work at Heath Ceramics (2900 18th Street).
