Pictured above (from top to bottom) are four furniture pieces—one old, three new—that have found their way into interior designer Lucile Glessner's new décor plan for the Eichler X-100: original vintage Knoll sofa, Unson credenza from Joybird Furniture, Pi coffee table from Blue Dot, set of four all-white Bend Lucy chairs.

"We needed to balance that. Those colors are not unusual for Eichlers, but they are bright," Glessner conceded, calling it an historic home "with colors that are innate to the house that we are preserving."

For their furnishing plan, which is still coming together, the team chose numerous new contemporary pieces to accompany the Knoll sofa and color accents, primarily from Joybird Furniture—but also from Blu Dot, Bend Lucy, and some other vendors.

"People want to preserve the architectural lines of the house, but they don't want to live in that time," Glessner says of the challenge. "You can make a house have that feel without all the pieces being from that period."

"You need to still live in the 21st century. You're not in the 20th century," Glessner concludes, pointing to MCM homeowners today. "You bought a mid-century modern home, but you don't automatically want to live in a time capsule! You have to adjust to the comforts and change of the 21st century."
