'Pocketful of Eichlers': sweet music graces the Sunnyvale tract of Rancho Sans Souci. Photo: Sabrina Huang

"Music is quite literally in the air of a 35-home Sunnyvale Eichler tract with the charming name of Rancho Sans Souci—a ranch without cares," reports Dave Weinstein, who introduces us to a 'Pocketful of Eichlers' in our latest, in-depth profile of an Eichler development. The Claude Oakland-designed tract, which was launched by Joe Eichler in 1967, is home to musicians and artists alike who appreciate its laid-back atmosphere and warm camaraderie.

In a showcase photographed by Sabrina Huang, the friendliness and diverse musical and artistic talents of Rancho Sans Souci is immediately apparent. At the Beckmann Eichler, we're introduced to Julliard-trained pianist Chin Beckmann and Ronit Widmann-Levy, a soprano whose voice has graced concert halls around the world.

With everything from house concerts to pool parties to just plain neighborliness, life in the Rancho offers a community bond that is well known to Eichler neighborhoods everywhere, and one that brings out the best of living in this very special Silicon Valley tract.

'Unsung Masters of the Mid-century': saluting ten trailblazers who found love in jazz guitar.

The latest installment of 'Unsung Masters of the Mid-century,' penned by Dan Smith, touches on a mix of ten influential and innovative jazz guitarists from the 1950s and '60s—certainly ones who, despite their unsung status, deserve to be rediscovered and acknowledged today.

Reviewing the musical accomplishments of 'cool jazz' guitarist Jimmy Raney (who made a mark in the groups of saxophone legend Stan Getz), '60s Blue Note artist Grant Green, trailblazer Billy Bauer (who once backed big bands like Benny Goodman), and seven others, Smith's research will soon have your turntable spinning with the guitar twangs of bebop, acid jazz, and even a bit of R&B.

And that's not all…the Winter '22 issue also includes 'Illuminating Icons,' which highlights ten unique mid-century and contemporary-style standing floor lamps that will look great in your home.
