Outdoor Furnishing's Greatest Hits, Part II

Welcome to the second installment of our look at this year’s best outdoor furnishing options. This week, CA-Modern home-improvement editor Tanja Kern rounds out her picks with two different approaches to wire stools, and a very handsome chaise lounge. If you haven’t already perused them, check out last week’s picks.

Cruz Chaise

Most Handsome: Cruz Chaise by Room & Board. “I envision a couple of these out by the pool with a nice cold cocktail. It seems like a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Emerald green is the color of the year, so it’s a trendy color but the green also blends in nicely with the outdoors. I think it has really clean lines, very simple, very elegant. I feel like you can be comfortable without needing a big cushy pad on it. It’s kind of a piece of sculpture all its own. And supposedly the Room and Board pieces, they cost a little bit more but they’re powder coated, and they’re supposed to be very durable. So unlike something you pick up at a lower-end shop, these should last quite a long time.

Shitake Stool

Best Splurge: Moroso Shitake Accent Stool by Allmodern. “I love them for their simple shape and subtle colors. I think for furniture in general I like pieces you can use multiple ways. You can use these as a little side table for your drinks or magazines. Or you could use it for a little stool. I could see this nestled up in a little Zen garden, or as a side table on your patio. This is expensive, but it’s hard to find this kind of vintage-looking stuff for an affordable price. These stools are made in Italy and they’re weather and stain-resistant You know the Italian stuff is always more.

Wired Stools

Best Value for Money: Lola Wired Stool by World Market. “They’re a great deal because I’ve seen wire side tables that are similar to these but all for several hundred dollars at higher-end furniture stores. I’m sure they’re not made the same in terms of one long strand of wire. And I’m not sure about the durability. But it’s a great way to add some more color and also a place for a drink or a small chair or something.”
