Had my chimney capped and it's the best thing ever

Hello Eichler Neighbors,

I've lived in my Eichler for 12 years and for 12 years, my living area has been freezing for 12 years. 

To make a long story short, I had my chimney "capped."  I left for two hours and came back to a toasty home!  I kept thinking it was my 1954 single pane plate glass windows causing the coldness.  Nope, it was the chimney!  The need to replace the windows went down a few notches. 

This cap doesn't seal it to prevent from burning wood.  What it is a unit that sits on top of the chimney.  A cable is dropped and is attached to inside the hearth.  When I want to to open the chimney, I release this spring-loaded plate and I can light a fire. 

In these cold weather, it is a pleasure to come home to a warm home.
