Is it true that the only way to change the front door locks is to change out the entire door? If not true, any model info would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
Hi Katherine,
You don't say if you are talking about the exterior wood door or the exterior sliding glass door. In either case, you should be able to have the locks re-keyed without changing the entire hardware.
I had the locks to my frontdoor, hall bath door, and garage rekeyed as almost the first thing when I took possession of my house. I called a mobile key service.
I've been told this can also be done for the key locks on the sliding glass doors. The guy I had called didn't have the parts for it but I later learned another company could do it--it's on my list but not yet done.

katherine,
i was able to replace the lock mechanism (core) of the front sliding glass door on my 1959 courtyard eichler in fairbrea/sunnyvale. the core was easy to extract once the handle of the door was unscrewed from the door.
it took a while to find a place that could help. in my case, the door was made by arcadia but they no longer make the style i have. i found a window/door store in the mid-peninsula (redwood city) that sells windows/doors and they were able to recognize the lock mechanism and order me a replacement.
off-hand, i can't remember the name of the store but if your situation is similar to mine and you can't get any leads on finding a replacement, let me know and i'll dig through my records to find the name of the store.

Hi Amy,
Couldn't email you direct since you don't have an email address in your posting (or on your profile). You could mail me instead, if you like, and I'll send you the information:

Cheers.
