Help? Anyone ever put a steam shower in their Eichler?

Greetings:

We are getting ready to remodel the master bath. Basic remodel, not moving anything. We have a courtyard model Eichler (Willow Glen) with the master bath that has a long, narrow dressing/sink area and then a small separate room for the WC and shower. The room is against two external walls.

We will be doing a custom tile sit-down shower like we did for the hall bath and I am trying to talk hubby into making it a steam shower. They recently did this in the women's locker room at my club where I swim - and with showers of similar dimensions - and only slighly larger than our space, and it is terrific.

Anyway, my long winded question is: has anyone out there done a steam shower in their Eichler? Are there any issues you can think of that would make doing it in an Eichler different than any other house, other than the obvious things that happen w a 60 year old house? We had a complete electrical panel replacement a few years ago and I think it has capacity, though I will need to get a GC out here to confirm. Also, since it is on an outside wall, I am assuming that the electrical components would be installed there for easy access from the outside.

Hubby thinks it will be way more expense and maintenance than it is worth but he is now reconsidering, since they are so good for folks with asthsma and seasonal allergies. The ones at the club are great and include a rain shower style shower head with a diverter to a hand-held unit, plus the steam unit. I easily spend 30 minutes in there after a work out and love it. Any reason why this is a bad idea or is going to pose unusual challenges?

Any thoughts?

Thanks much,

We installed a 'wet' sauna in our Eichler. As you may be aware, the installation / installation requirements are quite similar to an enclosed steam room.

The biggest things you need to be concerned about are:
- humidity /humidity control outside of the steam shower,
- adequate 'real estate' for the shower enclosure & a properly size steam generator,
- insuring that you've addresed the electrical requirements (which should be easy since you recently completed a panel upgrade)
