I have seen some very nice looking house numbers on Eichlers in my area. Rather Frank Loyd Wright looking. Anyone know where to find them ??

Perhaps you mean numbers like the ones on this site:

http://www.customhousenumbers.com/eichler/index.htm

We made our own numbers, not to hard with a hand held coping saw and a little patience:

Hello Joe,

I ordered my house numbers from the website. It took some time, though. The numbers arrived last week and they look excellent! It's worth the wait.

I bought mine online from a retailer located in Belgium. They're stainless steel, and I'm very happy with how they've turned out. I chose the "Tetan" font.

Good luck!

We had ours custom made by a contactor/neighbor. They are made of wood in a simple sans serif font (looks like univers or helvetica) and 9 inches high. We painted them orange. They look great.

The Greenmeadow pool/community center in Palo Alto and a few homes in the Greenmeadow area have some silver colored numbers. Does anyone know where I can get numbers like these?

We bought some numbers from the Signals catalog that were Frank Lloyd Wright numbers. We really liked them, however many of our neighbors are going back to the original looking numbers and so we bought some from our neighbor who is making great reproductions of the original and their prices are good. We hung them up last month and they look great. Their website is http://www.Eichlernumbers.com

I checked out a neighbor's house who has the original numbers and I can't tell the difference between the original and our neighbor's reproduction numbers.

Lynn,

You can get nice Eichler looking stainless numbers from http://www.customhousenumbers.com.

Have them produce the numbers for you using their "EH Bold Extended ver 2.0" font (99% Eichler copy), as shown on http://www.customhousenumbers.com/eichler. They can also deliver the Eichler original number block style, if you choose.

Pricier than the Helvetica numbers you can find at Expo, sure, but much more nicer looking and truer to the Eichler look.

For metallic numbers, we got the neutra font numbers in stainless steel, also from customhousenumbers: http://www.customhousenumbers.com/neutraface/ which arent per se authentic but do look darn good.

if you want to check them out we're down the street in the los arboles neighborhood, email me at lcheng-at-ideo-dot-com if you want our address to drive by.

I should check by your house sometimes and have a look at those numbers. Has anyone bought those numbers which recently popped up at ebay ? Is the quality of those comparable ?

Thanks

Come over and see the numbers anytime.
Have not put them on yet as I am going to
put new siding on the front of the house next
month.

I too purchased the numbers from Ebay. In the process on working on the front yard and they will be the last thing up, (the frosting on the cake). If anyone would like to see them in San Miguel, just drop me a line.

I just got a tip from a designer here at work who has been looking around recently:

http://www.westonletters.com/?catID=23&file=index.php

has very nice looking metal numbers -maybe cast aluminum?- for about 1/2 the price of customhousenumbers.com -so in case anyone's still looking ....

cheers -L

So what's an appropriate style? They list about 40 on that page. Certainly none of the serif based fonts. Maybe Eurostyle bold?

To get metallic (stainless steel or aluminum) numbers in the 'Eichler Font', contact http://www.customhousenumbers.com and ask them to use the 'EH Bold Extended font version 2' as shown on http://www.customhousenumbers.com/eichler.

I just got mine and they're excellent.
See for yourselves at 1170 Sesame Dr, Sunnyvale.

There is also someone who is selling eichler house number reproductions on ebay. Just enter 'eichler numbers' in the search. I do not know however how they compare quality wise.

Have you seen the latest edition of the catalogue from Design Within Reach? They have some lovely modern house numbers and mail boxes in a brushed SS finish.

cathye: the dwr numbers are the Apollo Marconi (customhousenumbers.com) Neutra-face house numbers.

while the numbers are nice and are marketed with the "neutra" name, the type face is from the 1930s.

I would like to get my Mom’s Eichler back to brand. Unfortunately it looks like Eichlernumbers.com is not in business anymore. Does anyone have a recommendation of where I can go to get the original looking house numbers? Not sure I’m up for making them myself.
