Replacing a bathtub

We just bought a Eichler in San Jose. The bathroom plumbing is back to back with no access hatch & we are thinking about pulling the hall bathtub out & replacing it but we are unsure how to access the plumbing to plum in the new drain once the new tub is set. Any suggestions or anyone with experience with this

Thanks!!!

Hi,
Does anyone know the bathtub in the hall way is a cast iron ?
I open the wall but not sure what it is.
I have a scratch so I would either fix it (refub) for buy a new one?
I have a artirum model.

Thanks a lot!

To the first poster, the best course of action may be to ask a neighbor in your tract with the same model if they've had to replace/repair plumbing and how they got to the plumbing. There may be an access panel somewhere...

To the second poster - if a magnet sticks to your tub, you can conclude that it is cast iron (or steel). Depending on the size of the scratch, you can buy 'repair' kits that basically let you paint/touch up the scratch. It won't be pretty, but replacing the tub is a major undertaking...
