Hi, we are planning on relandscaping our front yard and side/back yard of our flat-roof altrium model Eichler home in sunnyvale. The yard is now spread with weed and ugly juniper brushes and badly needs makeover. We won't be changing much of the hardscape layout (no fountain/pond/patio/BBQ etc) as the existing swimming pool takes much all of the backyard and leaves not much space for fancy features, but we do need a sensible design in the front yard, the side yard (quite large) and the altrium to provide 1) curb appreal 2) more grassing area for our two small kids 3) relaxed atmosphere in the altrium. So we need lawns/garden with irrigation (none existing), new pavers for the entryway and driveway, and new plantings and possibly a fountain (modern/minimalist style) in the altrium. We would like to hire a professional landscape architect/designer who has an understanding of the modermist architecture of a Eichler, who wont propose a rose garden or some fancy country garden. Oh, a big requirement is that the landscape must be low maintenance, as neither hubby nor I is a keen gardener. Any experience with an Eichler or other contemporary style home is a plus. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Send your recommendation to JIONGCHENATYAHOODOTCOM.

Thanks in advance.

PS. I want to get the project right from the start with a good design, thus the consideration of involving a professional designer. I'm aware of the extra cost vs. hiring a landscape contractor with design services. If you have good experiences with a landscape contractor who both designs and constructs, that can justify not paying extra money for a seperate designer, that's even better. I'd appreciate it if you could share such experiences.

I'm also interested in finding a landscaper that will consult on my yard. It's about time for me to redo just about the entire yard and atrium. My atrium had been tiled over with red santillo (?) tiles that I just don't like. Want to tear it all out and either restore the original concrete with planter boxes around the side and add a water feature or do something different.

Is there anyone who will do a 2-3 hour consultation possibly extending into more? Just come over and discuss options and plants- possibly do a rough sketch of plans to get me thinking? I'm a graphic designer and am very interested in modernism and minimal architecture but landscape design is out of my expertise. I have lots of photos of landscape I like and plants that I like but having trouble piecing it all together in a cohesive whole. I talked with one landscaper that said they work with some designers who do short consultations but I didn't like their portfolio at all- way too contemporary. I want someone with special interest in Modernism. I appreciate the Japanese aesthetic but don't want to go too far in that direction.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
