Installing Hardwood Laminate floors over existing Ceramic Tile - Good or Bad?

Hi - 
We want to update the floors without doing a huge demo (if possible). We've had one contractor (family from the midwest), tell us that you can put hardwood laminate floors over the ceramic tile, but the heat will transfer & the floors are "floating" so it's not a big deal. Has anyone else done this & if so, has it worked out fine? Thanks in advance
