I want to hang artwork on my mahogany walls but I don't want to damage the wood. Is there a way to do this or is it OK to put small nails into the paneling? I've hung some artwork on walls that don't go all the way up to the ceiling using filament thread secured from above. Thanks for any help.

We placed modern-style picture hanging rail at the ceiling trim in our hallway and living room/dining room for our flat roof atrium-style Eichler. It's worked well for twenty years, and allows us to move and change artwork whenever we want. We've also hung pictures on nails in the paneling, but I like that the picture rail doesn't force us to put in new holes each time we change art.
We used the aluminum molding from Walker Display ( https://walkerdisplay.com/product/timeless-modern-molding/ ), then hung picture wire from their hooks to hold the artwork. They've also got vertical fiberglass rods that can mount to the picture rail and support multiple pieces. The bronze finish is unobtrusive against philipine mahogany walls.
