What is this stuff?
I'm finding some fine almost dirt like stuff on my floor in the vanity area of my bathroom. It appears to be coming from the ceiling boards right up against the wall. Any ideas?

I had similar dirt appear in a home back east and it was caused by termites. :(
You might want to get someone out to inspect....

Yep, sounds like termites. Can be either of two types: subterranean or drywood. Since it is in the vanity area, I suspect it might be subterranean (which we had treated in our home last December--also vanity area). Unfortunately, treatment for each is different so it's important to get the correct identification.
You need to get a reliable termite inspector familiar with eichler construction. Get recommendations from fellow eichlerowners then check the company's licence with the Structural Pest Control Board (online).

It turns out I have carpenter ants which makes sense to me. The first time I saw the "dirt" and cleaned it up some ants crawled away from it. We have had a on again off again problem with ants in this house. Now to decide on the treatment options which thankfully are lower in cost then treating termites. Thanks for all your feedback.
