For 'Winner's Circle,' Weinstein takes us on marvelous architectural journeys, including a trip to meet Julian Goldklang and Desiree Myers, the owners of the Meyer Round House in the Oakland Hills; and chats about architect George Bissell, Jr.'s circular 'Horizon House' and Matti Suuronen's out-of-this-world flying saucer 'Futuro House.'

'Winner's Circle' also offers insights into the ingenious thinking of Buckminster Fuller, John Lautner, and architects who took homebuilding to a level never seen before.

You'll also fall in love with the 'Eichlers of Shangri-La,' an inside look at the Eichler homes along Richardson Bay at Strawberry Point in Marin County. Built in 1965, they were set to rival any other Eichler tract in lushness and luxury.

But instead of 99 homes, only 13 were built, as Eichler Homes, for reasons way beyond Strawberry point, slid into bankruptcy. The spirit of Joe Eichler lives on in this charmed tract of unique homes, however, according to longtime resident Avril Couris.

"It is a Shangri-La," she beams, referring to the imaginary location of paradise from the 1933 utopian novel Lost Horizon.

'Whirling in the Wind': ten outdoor kinetic sculptures for your backyard garden.

Another spring story that will fire up your imagination is 'Whirling in the Wind,' which features ten outdoor kinetic sculptures that are available for purchase.

'Balanced Arch Rock Cairn,' 'Metal Spiral Spinner,' and 'Element Water' are just a few of the modern and contemporary sculptures designed to make a statement while catching outdoor breezes.

Their meticulously balanced sails and spinners just may get your mind whirling in wonder: "where is that ideal spot in our backyard garden where we can raise up a wind sculpture of our own?"

Bring out the paint! The biggest splash of home improvement for the spring issue is 'House of Many Colors,' by yours truly. Presented as a practical guide, with helpful insights and actual color recommendations, our story guides you towards achieving that 'seamless indoor-outdoor flow' and ensuring your Eichler looks its best.

Maintaining the mid-century concept can be tricky when painting your home, but addressing such challenges is what the article is all about.

"A homeowner might need guidance, and that's what we're here for," says painting pro Nick Pierce of N Style Painting. "We decipher what kind of exterior paint schemes work best."

Well, Joe Eichler himself had a lot to say about color schemes too, judging from Eichler Homes' original recommended paint color palette that he left behind. Lou Palladino of Palladino Painting explains that Joe's earthy paint palette may have been misunderstood over the years, but it still retains relevance and value today. Check it out.
