4x4 studs around front door.

Hi I was curious if anyone knows how the 4x4 stud next to the 9 inch wide window next to the front door is secured to the ground?

Hi Sean: From what I've found in the 60s East Bay Eichlers, the 4X4 is secured to the ground somewhat crudely by a small metal bracket and nails. The proper modern replacement would be a "Simpson"-style stand-off (adjustable) bracket bolted to the concrete.
(I've replaced two doors where that post base was entirely unsecured save what gravity and thick paint might have provided. :/ ...)
