There is a neighborhood in Fullerton, CA near Fullerton College with a number of homes that look very Eichleresque. Anyone know if there are any in that area? I know ther are Eichler's and Cliff May's in Orange which is only a few miles away so maybe...[/list]

Did you know that there are Cliff May's right in Tustin as well?

I don't know exactly where Fullerton College is but, l know of a large group of homes in Fullerton designed by Jones and Emmons that are not Eichlers.

joniressinger: JB is correct. Those homes you mention were designed by Jones & Emmons (of Eichler fame) and built by Pardee-Phillips in the mid-50s. Pardee-Phillips built modernist tracts, designed by Jones & Emmons all over SoCal, Las Vegas, Pheonix, and Tucson. Several of the Jones & Emmons designs for PP won AIA awards.

JB: I'll be in LA next week. Where is Tustin? Street names?

I plan to visit the Orange County (Lees st. area) tract and head up to Laural Canyon in the west hills as well. I'll be on a Cliff May and Jones & Emmons mission until heading to the desert to see the P&Ks, wexlers, etc!

Hi Joe,

For the Cliff May's in Tustin, look East of Red Hill and South of Irvine.

ps: I'll be thinking of you while I'm in Palm Springs THIS weekend on the tour.

Take care, JB

Where some of these other Cliff May/Pardee Phillips tracts are-I heard Whittier and Long Beach mentioned in posts/theads. Too bad Pardee didn't continue (like under another division for their 'modern' homes), now they go the faux Tuscan Mansion route.

Wishing for modern home.

Thanks for the info...A friend of mine recently bought a home in that area we thought might be an eichler, but there are many details that didn't fit. It may, however, be a Jones & Emmons...I appreciate the feedback. :)

modfan, it sounds as if you may be combining the Cliff May's and the Jones and Emmons / Pardee Phillips. They are different. I've seen Cliff May tracts in Anaheim, Long Beach and Tustin. I've seen the Jones and Emmons / Pardee Phillips in Whittier and Fullerton. See page 187 in Modernism Rediscovered for a picture of a Fullerton Jones and Emmons / Pardee Phillips home.
