Asbestos in Eichler roof or walls?

My wife and I recently purchased an Eichler in Walnut Creek's Rancho San Miguel. Because of the extreme summer heat here we're probably going to install a Unico A/C system. Our concern is that the roof penetrations might generate asbestos dust from the 1950's vintage roof insulation. Does anyone know whether Eichler Homes used asbestos in their roof and/or wall insulation, particularly in Rancho San Miguel?

Thanks from two excited but wary Eichler newbies...

welcome to the neighborhood! Which street are you on ? The best way to survive the summer heat here is to hang out at the Eichler-built swim club :-)

I am not quite sure if there is asbestos in the original roof insulation. I guess if you want to combine the unico system with a foam roof, you would want to strip all the existing insulation anyway before creating the roof penetrations.

If you want to be 100% certain, you may want to take a sample of the insulation and have it tested.

Also welcome to the neighborhood. I also don't know, but agree with jsierra, if you really want to know take a sample and have it tested. I know that several people ing the 'hood have installed that system, and have nothing but good things to say regatding it as well. Where did you purchase? I am on Los Cerros.

Thanks for the welcomes, Johannes & Chris. We will be moving into our new home on Santa Fe Drive in mid-April. I guess the only way to know for sure about the asbestos is to test, unless someone else comes forward who has already gone that route. See you in the neighborhood!

For anyone who has been wondering, we had our roof core-drilled and the sample tested for asbestos...it came a way with a clean bill of health!

I am glad to hear that you didn't find any aspestos. Again hope you enjoy your home and the neighborhood. Peetes on Saturday morning is quite a wait. :)
