Need oven parts

I have an original thermador oven that has a door that won't close. I've been told by the local authorized thermador repair place that the springs needed are no longer available. Does anyone have an oven they're using for parts with some springs they can spare? Alternatively, a source for generic parts that would work would also be appreciated.

Too bad. I just threw out the spare one which was using up space in my garage after I pulled what I thought to be useful parts - but the door springs were not among them :-(

BTW, what do you mean by 'does not close' ? None of the Thermadors I have seen so far closes all the way. When they are closed, there is a 1/8'' gap between the door and the frame. Is that possibly part of the design ?

I think Tom used the same authorized repair person I did so if the repair person said it needed a new spring, there's little doubt. I kept other things from my earlier oven but not the one spring (the other had broken).

Interestingly enough, though, when that repair person did some work on my oven, he corrected the small gap you mentioned. It was apparently the result of 40 years of pulling down on the top of the oven door slightly bending the upper portion out, creating the gap.

He fixed it for me. If I remember correctly, the repair person rolled up a towel (top to bottom) and placed it against the oven face (maybe a third of the way down?). He then shut the door against it and *gently* applied pressure to the top section of the door to sort of bend it in again.

Anyway, you could experiment if you're interested.

Thanks for the tip. I will give it a try.

With regard to spare parts, I happen to have a whole bundle of the porcelain brackets for the broiler element as shown in the picture. I will gladly send them to anyone who needs spare ones:

I have a Thermador sitting in my garage. You are welcome to it for parts. Send me an email if you are interested.

If you can keep your original oven working...go for it! The new ovens all have noisy fans, ostensibly to "cool the electronic panels" and they are utterly unsuitable for Eichler open-plan kitchens.

I wish I could reclaim my old oven....
