we are in the process of installing bamboo in our Eichler. The installer, after taking the carpet off, told us he can not glue it on (as we originally planned) because of the condition of the subfloor. He is recommanding a floating installation and he is talking of thick pad that is needed for acustic. Is the pad a common procedure for floating hardwood floor? In case, does anybody have recommandation on the kind of pad and what to look for? - thanks
You can find information on Tuplex at: http://www.snt-group.net/tuplex/usa/ominai.htm . Any reputable flooring company should be able to order it for you quickly.
OR
you should contact the company that manufactures the bamboo that you have selected and ask them what underlayment they recommend for installation over a concrete slab w/ functional radiant heat. It is important that you get this information directly from the manufacturer vs. a reseller since the manufacturer is in the best position to tell you what works best with their product under various conditions.
p.s. what type of bamboo did you go with? "Engineered" or standard bamboo? What brand? Who did you select to do the installation? Please let me know via e-mail OR simply post your response.
we are in sunnyvale and we decided to go with the flooring company advertising on this site.. 2 families in the neighborhood used them recommanding it. Our is engineered bamboo (honey color, a little bit darker than the very common one) and the flooring company sent us the installers... if you live nearby, you can check it out once we are done ...hopefully it comes out nice :)
I would be very interested in taking a look at your bamboo floor, if it is convenient for you. I can be contacted at JIONGCHEN AT YAHOO DOT COM.
Thanks in advance!
