I need assistance in removing original Sargent doorknobs for interior doors. I'm replacing the doors and would prefer to keep the original hardware. I believe these are series 6 type doorknobs. If anyone has any idea on how to do this without damaging the hardware, please let me know.
I can be reached at 925 963-3230 or thru this chat.
Thanks.
Update: I contacted Sargent Lock and they sent me a wrench to open the knob collar. The knob handle is being held on by a pin that can be depressed using the same wrench.
I have everything loose, and can not figure out how to get these knobs off...
please help.
Cheers
I managed to remove one side of the knob set. I'm having trouble with the other side. Don't know why that is.
Here's what I did.
On the threaded pipe, there is a hole where you can access the pin holding the knob in place. Use a small flat head screwdriver and push the pin down and then pull the knob away from the lock. It should pop out easily. Both sides should work the same but I'm having trouble with the exterior facing part of the knob set.
Good luck.
They sometimes get stuck to the paint. Try prying it gently around the base with a putty knife or insert a screw driver from the other side and see if you can pop it off.
