3M Window Film Recommendations

I am considering applying 3M film to all the original windows in my Eichler, mostly for safety purposes in case someone accidentally walks/falls into the windor or as initial protection in case of earthquake.
I have contacted a couple of dealers and received a recommendation to use 3M Ultra 800 (8 mil thickness), which turns out to be quite expensive. Another dealer suggested reducing the thickness to 7 mil (3M 7 SH I believe), which would offer the same safety features but would protect less against break-in.
Any recommendations from the community?
