Limestone flooring - installation cost question

Hello all,

My husband and I have finally decided on a limestone to install in our Eichler in all rooms. The limestone costs about $13 per sq foot.

Does anyone have any feed back as to the general cost for installation?
Our estimate is for $38,000 for installation of 18 x 18 tiles for our 16,000 sq ft home with 4 bedroom and 2 bathroom and 1 "great room".

In addition, our dealer is charging a figure of $7,200 for a crack membrane. Is this usury?

Thanks much for any information you can share.

(i assume you mean 1600 sq ft.)

i had limestone installed in my 1400 sq ft fairbrae/sunnyvale eichler a few years ago. i was quoted installation prices ranging from $8 sq ft to about $16. this was with 16 inch square tiles. this included grout and crack membrane. i had to seal it myself. i suggest you get additional estimates. make sure you get someone who is experienced installing natural stone. someone experienced installing ceramic tile but not natural stone will screw it up ... unless they're a natural.

Thanks Kevin,

Yes you are right it is only 1,600 sq. ft. rather than the 16,000 sq. footage I accidently put in my original post. (Though at times and after hearing some estimated costs it seems like the latter figure.)

Thank you for your input.

May I ask if there were any other additional costs that came up that I should be thinking about?

Much thanks again,

DSB

other costs? hmmm. well, i "volunteered" to remove and reinstall all baseboards and toilets/sinks and doors. i was also responsible for moving all my furniture out to the garage so the floor space was clear. and, i suppose removal of existing carpeting/tile/vinyl would've cost me except i had already done this so my floors were all prepared.

regarding prices, you might find some shops that will sell you the tile at a discount if you use their installer, i.e., a package deal might save you money over separately buying the tile and the getting an installer.
