Mid Century Modern airing on This Old House

Just for your information, the PBS long running home improvement TV show, This Old House started it's new season last weekend on KQED. This year, they're not doing the typical New England 1800's type of home or the other more traditional type of home rennovation projects.

They found a Mid Century home in Boston that was in need of care and a home owner who didn't really know what he had or liked. The first 2 shows have aired and it looks like the focus is on modern. While not an Eichler home, it did have some of the kinds of design features that architects of the era all did for our style homes. Lots of glass, indoor/outdoor feeling, flat roofs, etc. The final architect design is not a proper or slavish attempt at keeping with the original exterior design. The exterior was a box or set of boxes and not a very nice one. The new design is contemporary and clean. I don't know how it will turn out internally, but I'll keep watching. It could be good and open some eyes to modern.

Next week they look at Mid Century Modern Architectual design while visiting the Gropius house IIRC.

Hometime's latest project is also a midcentury modern. I think it wraps up this week.

we've been discussing this program on Lotta Living for a while now. Not real positive and this single guy plans to nearly double a 2400 sqft house. Terms like "dwell-like" and "McModern" were used to describe things
