Have you wondered about the designs of the modernist-style Eichler homes of Rancho San Miguel? Do you know how many different floor plans there are in these homes, which were built between 1955 to 1958 and were known for their light and open styles?

You can tour a sampling of Walnut Creek's Rancho San Miguel Eichler homes on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 5. The tour is self-guided between 1 and 4 p.m. and will feature 12 homes of a variety of plans. The tour begins at the Rancho San Miguel Swim Club at 2727 San Carlos Drive.

Tickets are $10 per person. The event is open to adults and youths over the age of 12 unless carried in a baby pack. Otherwise, children under the age of 12 may not tour the homes. Strollers are not permitted. The Eichler Tour is one of this fall's events for Walnut Creek Reads 2008, which this year features the 1950s memoir The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson.
