sealing & cleaning exposed aggregate

Hi we have a Streng Bros. home with exposed aggregate in the kitchen and several other areas. How in the world do you clean this and any ideas about sealing it with a wax or something? We tried an epoxy sealant and it did nothing.

Any ideas I'd love to hear them all.
