We are new to our Eichler and desperate for some additional storage. We are considering a custom shed on one or both sides of the house. Has anyone had any experience with this? If so, can you recommend a company? Please e-mail me direct at rzwissler AT yahoo DOT com. Thanks!

If you are talking about a simple wooden shed, I would think fence contractors could build it. But like all contractors, you'll find pricing all over the map.
If you go this route, make sure it's built without the fence as structual support - - it's un-neighborly and causes problems when the common fence has to be replaced.

The prefab sheds are nice structures; they won't fit the side of the house. The backyard is the better location, but you'll be giving up prime real estate and need to lay down a foundation. The prefab sheds can be used as habitable space - - hobby room, office or even a guest room. In any event, you'll need to check permitting with the City. My city, Sunnyvale, seems to require 5 feet spacing from any other structure. I've seen a couple of San Jose mini-split AC installations that wouldn't be permitted in Sunnyvale, so San Jose seems less restrictive or less code conscience.
