anyone know where to find (perhaps a place open on the weekends) the squarish downspouts that pair with the original eichler roof drains?

please post here and/or send to red (at) redneckmodern (dot) com

thanks...

Hey,
I purchased down spout material from Home Depot. I am not sure if we have the same set up, I have a round tube that comes through the roof that I just sliped the down spout on to and then attached with a couple of down spout brackets. If this sound like a match you are more than welcome to stop by and take a look.

Our originals are about 2" x 3". The square pipe goes all the way through the roof. When we had foam roofing put on the roofers added two new through roof round pipes to drain old low spots. We were able to use the 2' x 3" rectangular downspout pipe that is sold in many hardware stores - including big orange.

When I made the new downspouts I made a change to correct a weakness of the original design - the nearly horizontal run from the thru roof pipe to the wall collects dirt and needs frequent cleaning. I suggest making this run abo :) ut 30 degrees downhill - any dirt that gets thru the inlet screen is carried all the way out of the downspout!

There's nothing 'special' per-se about downspouts for eichler homes. You can buy the plain rectangular material at the big-box stores.

Companies that make/repair gutters will also just do downspouts for you if you like. I had 5 downspouts added last year (prior owner had removed them) - cost for material/installaion was about $60/spout.

Most of these companies will offer aluminum (which they just snip and join with rivets/snaps and then seal with silcone) or steel (which is more costly and can be welded).

good timing. i just returned from big-orange and discovered a very similar rectangular downspout there (made in modesto... or merced... a "m" place that seemed close)... not nearly as heavy as the original, but seems like it will work with just a small bit of persuasion on the round-to-square fitting. i s'pose i've never looked for this style before and had always passed it by -- and when looking at replacement simply assumed that they would be a specialty item. i was pleasantly surprised.

nope, nothing special about plain rectangular downspouts
if you look up gutter supply on the web, you'll see a site that sells materials...and i'm sure there are local places that do the same
