I am looking to fix the non-keyed locks in my sliding, steel-framed, glass doors. I am also interested in getting them sliding easier...rollers? bearings? I dunno... Is there anyone out there who has solved these problems???

we just called our local sliding door company (nobody special) and they were able to change the sliders (i think to ball bearing) so they slid smoothly. They also ordered new locks and were able to get them to lock properly (I think somehow they raised them slightly).

we didn't know what we needed--the company just knew how to solve all of the problems...

Thanks, I appreciate the support, I'll hunt around somemore. Just out of curiosity, you don't happen to remember any brand names or company names,do you? If not, don't sweat it. And thanks. Rick

I used a company called American Sliding Door in Los Angeles. Maybe they are a franchise. The repairman didn't even say that the parts would be difficult to get. He just took a lock with him and ordered new ones. I think they were $50 a piece installed...

Cindy,

Thanks. In the meantime I also found a company in Marin that advertises sliding glass door hardware. The Advocate Company. I haven't tried them yet, but that's my next step. Thanks again.

We have the large arcadia sliding doors that weigh a ton. It currently sounds like they are rolling on pebbles. I really gotta get that fixed. If you find a good sliding door company in Marin, please post there name ;-)

Also, if any of you have the Arcadia doors, they have brass handles that look amazing when fully polished. (ours were black from 40 years of wear when we moved in until I noticed they could be cleaned with a solvent) Try it!

Thanks/Russell
