I'm not sure about Sunnyvale, but here in Concord (I now cringe when I say that) we have subterrainian termites, who like to start eating from the ground up. That said, look low and see if you see any evidence that shows that they are subterrainian parasites, if so, then you need to drill and use chemicals. I suggest termidor. I don't trust any bug companies, but I do believe that TERMIDOR works. If your parasites are not the sub-ter type, then I suggest someone else offer their opinion, as I know little of the other kind.
Hope this helps.

Hi All- The remodel is done but...home maintenance is NEVER done- right? I found an infestation of subterranean termites right where we had it treated a year and a half ago. A localized area was treated with liquid Dragnet. I guess it didn't take because they are still there.

I just got a quote from Clarks Pest control (who uses the termidor chemical mentioned in the last posting) The quote was for $1816.00 (yikes!) which includes full home perimeter treatment (trenching and injections of chemical into the ground), localized injections of foam around the interior area and a quarterly treatment/inspection. I'm having Terminix come tomorrow for an inspection. All use Termidor treatments.

Any recommendation and advice is appreciated!

Treat locally and get inspections regularly as termites swarm every year from your neigbors house. I seem to find the little buggers all the time.

My mom got her house trenched and she found termites on an inside wall which was not covered.

For a roof I would consider tenting the house depending on the damage and access to replace/treat the wood.

I live in Sunnyvale and can recommend my termite guy by email.

Best regards, Ralph

Ralph- Can you send me your termite guy's number to my email at
lynndrake2004 AT yahoo DOT com?

I also got a quote for baiting from Terminix. They say that it works better in the long term for termites compared with the trenching/termidor. It's of course more expensive at $2000 with a $400 renewal per year for bait monitoring.

It's especially tricky to eliminate termites on a slab with radiant heat. I'd be appreciative of anyone who has had good or bad luck with any particular company or technique.
