Need Advice on Bathroom/Shower Repair in Walnut Creek

Hi there,

We moved into our Eichler about a year ago in Walnut Creek, and just love it. Except for one thing -- the shower in the master bathroom keeps leaking. It leaks through the wall that joins it to the vanity area.

We've done what we could to stop it, but I'm afraid we'll have to re-do the shower.

Does anyone have any advice for us or know of a good handyman/contractor in the Walnut Creek area?

Looks like you should repair it for several reasons:

(1) if it develops into something big and your homeowner insurance kicks in, you will be dinged. Our Eichler was almost uninsurable 1 week before closing when the insurance CLUE database showed a $4,000 plumbing claim and an unknown radiant hearing leak in the 5 years before we bought the house -- I still get underwriting declinations from "preferred" insurance companies when I shopped around.
(2) It is causing damage, even if minute, regularly, and it doesn't get better on its own.

Here's how I would find a contractor:

(1) Ask neighbors -- the guy with a well maintained house but who doesn't do most of his work is a good candidate.
(2) Try Angie's List & Diamond Certfified -- don't know how good they are, but they were created to address the need of finding good contractors.
(3) The big box improvement stores, and tile stores have installation service, but yes, you want it good and cheap. Our Eichler came with a re-tiled master shower with frameless glass door -- realtor said it was a probbaly $5K job so get stick price shocked.
